You should 'play in' a new flute properly otherwise cracks or distortion could develop. Please follow the simple procedure outlined below and avoid problems later…
1. Gradually increase the playing time over a few weeks so that your new flute does not get too wet. Play for about 10 to 15 minutes per day to begin with and gradually increase this.
2. After playing always take your flute apart and clean out any moisture from the flute by using a piece of cotton rag in the eye of the cleaning rod. Mop out the flute so there is on visible moisture left inside.
3. Once or twice a week oil the inside and outside of your flute with baby oil or almond oil. Take care to wipe off any excess oil from pads as they may become sticky.
4. Lubricate the tuning slide with some Vaseline or if you can get it joint grease.
5. Do not allow your flute to become to dry, never leave beside radiators etc.
